of thousands of stampeders on their way to the Klondike
Gold Rush of 1897-1899.
This
family oriented hike and float adventure
begins in Skagway with a short 10 mile
van tour along the Skagway coastline to
the Chilkoot Trail Trail head. Have your
camera ready, occasionally
wildlife such as orcas, whales, porpoises,
seals, sea otters, and waterfowl may pose
for pictures. (wildlife
sightings are not guaranteed) Along
the way, you will have an excellent opportunity
to view and learn about the wondrous and
diverse wilderness that lies between Skagway,
Alaska and the Chilkoot Trail Trail head. |

This moderate Chilkoot Trail hiking adventure
is fairly steep for the about first quarter
mile, going uphill for about 200 yards and then back
downhill, with the remainder
on fairly level ground. This guided
1.8 mile hiking adventure of the world
famous Chilkoot Trail runs through a spectacular
old growth temperate rainforest. Your
naturalist tour guide will point out wildlife,
native plants and tell stories of Skagway,
Alaska and the Chilkoot Trail’s
fascinating Klondike Gold Rush history.

| Retrace
the footsteps of thousands of stampeding
prospectors who bypassed Skagway’s
White Pass Trail, to hike the Chilkoot
Trail, in order to reach the headwaters
of the Yukon River.
(The Chilkoot Trail was the most direct
route leading from the Skagway/Dyea area
to the Klondike Gold Fields around Dawson
City in the Yukon, a distance of more
than 665 miles from Skagway, Alaska.)

At
the end of this one way Chilkoot Trail
hike, you will board an 8 man rubber raft
with your tour guide and enjoy a peaceful
river float. |

The
float will take you through the Klondike
Gold Rush National Park on the Taiya River,
which parallels this portion of the historic
Chilkoot Trail. |

As
you continue on this family oriented hike
and float adventure, floating down the
Taiya River, you will see little evidence
of human civilization. However, you may
see/hear
the signs of a wide variety of wildlife,
including bears, wolves, coyotes, otters,
salmon, eagles, hawks and ravens; all
of which make their homes in the Taiya
River Valley. (wildlife
sightings are not guaranteed)

Concluding
your Taiya River float, you will be treated
to a riverbank snack of smoked salmon,
cheese, crackers, and juice. Your Chilkoot
Trail Hike and Float Tour will come to
an end as your tour guide returns you
to Skagway - but the adventure will live
on in the pictures you have taken and
the memories you hold!
